Well, normally at lunch time, I take a good 40 minute ride, come back refreshed and ready to finish off the work day. Well, today it's 90 degrees, and smoky. I took a 20 minute ride and decided I'd make a news entry since it has been a while. Hadn't wrote anything on bicycling on here yet, so it's about time.
We are blessed with being located near the jumping on point to miles and miles of state trails. A little bone the state throws the folks of Oroville since they are stealing all of our water and shorting us tax revenue from the lake, but I digress.
Anyway, we started exploring the trails by GeoCaching, and then by walking the dog. But it seems that we'd seen all there was to see within close walking distance. So, we decided "why not ride bikes"? Not to mention my own little issues with blood pressure.
Only problem was that one of us didn't know how to ride. That was resolved quick enough. Now he just needs to learn how to stop. But, when his "handbrake" bike arrives, maybe it will be a little easier.
So, while we aren't all "trail ready" at the moment, Mom and Dad have been enjoying a nice ride every now and then. And of course there are Dad's rides by himself.
Dad likes barreling down the trails and hills to the point that his trusty GT Ricochet of 8 years starts acting like it is going to disintegrate. So far the favorite ride is the back look around Bidwell out to the point, up to the visitors center (about 30 minutes or so,) and then back all downhill to home (about 2-3 minutes.)
It really is fun though getting out as a family, even if it is just doing laps around a parking lot or a cul-de-sac. The more excuses to spend time together, the better! And a kid is a lot better outdoors planted on a bicycle seat instead of sitting in front of computer or a television.
Well, back to work for me. When you have a chance, go dust off those bikes in the garage and go for a ride with the family!
